Christos Efthymiopoulos has a solid academic and professional background in the field of law and significant working experience in the field of Fintech and crypto assets. He currently works as a Senior Analyst for the MFSA’s Fintech & Virtual Currencies team and is managing the team which is responsible for processing applications under the Virtual Financial Assets Act. From the outset of his appointment, Christos has been heavily involved with the drafting and development of the Virtual Financial Assets legislative and regulatory framework. Prior to joining the MFSA, Christos was working as legal advisor, Compliance Officer and MLRO Designated Employee for an established Maltese firm, focusing mainly on financial services, with particular attention to investment funds, FinTech, Regulatory Compliance and Anti-Money Laundering. Prior to relocating to Malta, Christos had worked for the legal department of the Greek Consular Office in the Hague, Netherlands, focusing on European and private international law matters. Christos holds an LL.B. from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and is currently completing his LL.M. in Law and Technology from Tilburg University. He also holds various professional qualifications, including a Diploma in Fund Administration (Alternative Investment Funds) from CLT International as well as a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) certification from ACAMS
