This session will enable participants to understand the legal framework applied by the MFSA in the supervision of these entities that are in possession of a license issued by the Authority in terms of the Financial Institutions Act (Cap. 376), that besides the Act itself, the Financial Institutions Rules as well as other subsidiary legislation enacted to transpose the provisions of the second Payment Services Directive and the second Electronic Money Directive. Amongst others, the regulatory requirements that will be considered: Initial capital; Own funds; Solvency, and Liquidity.

The definition of Financial Institutions encompasses several types of service providers such as payment institutions, electronic money institutions and other institutions that provide services such as lending,

financial leasing, the provision of guarantees and commitments, foreign exchange services and money brokering.
